  • “If you know how to make good use of the mud, you can grow beautiful lotuses. If you know how to make good use of suffering, you can produce happiness. We do need some suffering to make happiness possible. And most of us have enough suffering inside and around us to be able to do that. We don’t have to create more.”

― Thich Nhat Hanh, No Mud, No Lotus: The Art of Transforming Suffering

HOLISTIC THERAPY

  • MIND

Using a psychodynamic approach, we aim to help individuals unravel core, unconscious beliefs that are at the root of an individual’s suffering and emotional distress. Other forms of therapy used include: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which helps individuals to identify and reframe negative thoughts that are leading to feelings of guilt, anxiety, sadness, fear and anger; Narrative Therapy, which uses the power of storytelling to help an individual see their problems and destructive behaviors as separate from themselves and supports them in rewriting their personal narrative to support a healthier and more empowering perspectives on their issues.

  • BODY

Our bodies are the vessels in which we carry all of our baggage: the good, the bad and the ugly. Part of healing is beginning to nurture not only the mind, but the body as well. Research has shown us that trauma disrupts the body’s natural equilibrium, which can be restored through exercise and movement. Encouraging and supporting individuals in developing a physical health practice is an important part of GRIT’s mission. Research has shown that yoga and meditation specifically help to produce a physiological state opposite to that of “flight-or-fight” - and with that interruption in the stress response, a sense of balance and union between the mind and body can be achieved.

  • SPIRIT

The spirit is defined as “the nonphysical part of a person which is the seat of emotions and character; the soul.” Therapy will help to uncover parts of your spirit that have been caked in dust and tucked away in the attic. Whether it’s an old passion or something you’ve always wanted to explore, GRIT aims to help individuals reignite the spark of their spirit and begin to live happy and fulfilling lives.
